Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to join the dynamic gastroenterology team at ELHT. The successful candidate will join 15 other experienced substantive consultants. The post is based across the Royal Blackburn Teaching Hospital and Burnley General Teaching Hospital, with clinics at peripheral sites in the East Lancashire region. The post holder will work in a ward in an on/off ward system with daily consultant ward rounds when on the ward and reduced elective activity with increased elective sessions when off the ward. Annual leave and study leave should be taken during the off ward periods.The applicant should be keen, hardworking and have willingness to work flexibly as a team member. Please note the job plan advertised is an example. Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of placement on the Register is required. The post is based across two main sites and involves clinics at peripheral sites in East Lancashire.There are 1.25 programmed activity (PA) commitments to a 1:12 weekend rota for acute upper GI bleeding. On-call duties include review of selected patients on Gastroenterology wards and some input to the Medical Assessment Unit. When off the wards the post holder will provide three clinics per week and two endoscopy sessions, attend MDTs and other meetings. Clinics and endoscopy sessions are expected to be provided across Blackburn and Burnley sites.The JD, PS and JP are subject to Royal College approval and may change.Responsibilities

To take a shared role in the development of the gastroenterology service in conjunction with the management team and consultant colleagues in gastroenterology.To provide ongoing care of patients on acute wards at RBH in partnership with consultant colleagues.To develop and promote services that minimise hospital stay and maximise opportunities for recovery and independent living.Undertake referral triage and timely responses to AandG.To participate in on call duties for gastroenterology.To take part in agreed provision of cover for consultant colleagues during leave.In due course, to provide professional supervision, direction and training to the junior medical staff.In due course, participate in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and supervision.To attend meetings of the Directorate of Digestive Diseases, Endo Users and any other pertinent management meetings usually held on Wednesday afternoons.About East Lancashire Hospitals Trust
