The Opportunity

We are partnering with a leading Tier 1 main contractor with a strong pipeline of secured framework projects across the North West. Following continued growth, they are looking to appoint an Assistant Design Manager or Design Manager to join their Manchester team.

The role supports schemes across the North West with most projects Manchester-based, helping to limit regional travel.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to step into design management within a highly regarded contractor, working on projects across education, healthcare, and commercial sectors.

The Role

You will support the coordination and management of the design process from pre-construction through to delivery, gaining exposure to high-quality projects and experienced teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in managing the design process across live projects
• Coordinate consultants and subcontractors
• Review drawings, specifications, and technical submissions
• Attend and contribute to design meetings
• Help monitor design programmes and key deliverables
• Support in identifying design risks and buildability issues

The Candidate

This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their career within a Tier 1 environment.

You will have:

• Experience as an Assistant Design Manager, Design Coordinator, or Architectural Technologist
• Exposure to construction projects (contractor or consultancy side)
• Strong technical understanding and attention to detail
• Good communication and organisational skills
• A proactive approach and willingness to learn

Qualifications:

• Degree or equivalent in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or similar
• CIAT/RIBA/CIOB pathway desirable
