Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced and commercially aware Technical Support Manager to lead our pump repair workshop and field service operations.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically skilled engineering professional who combines strong leadership capabilities with commercial awareness and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service.

The Role

As Technical Support Manager, you will oversee the delivery of high-quality technical support services while driving operational efficiency and commercial performance.

Acting as a key link between customers, sales teams, and technical personnel, you will ensure repairs and service activities are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards.

You will play a vital role in maintaining customer satisfaction, supporting business growth, and identifying opportunities for process improvements and enhanced profitability.

As our Technical Services Manager you will:

  • Lead the day-to-day activities of the pump repair workshop and field service teams.
  • Oversee pump strip-downs, inspections, machining, assembly, alignment, and performance testing.
  • Ensure jobs are scheduled effectively and completed within agreed timescales.
  • Implement and monitor quality control processes to maintain high repair and service standards.
  • Conduct technical assessments and approve repair scopes, quotations, and final reports.
  • Manage workshop tooling, equipment, inventory, and maintenance requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety regulations, industry standards, and company policies.
  • Prepare and approve quotations, repair proposals, and tender submissions.
  • Provide technical support to sales teams, including site surveys, presentations, and tender responses.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance margins.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and key stakeholders.
  • Support business growth through excellent service delivery and commercial awareness.

What We're Looking For

Essential Requirements

  • Proven experience within pump repair, rotating equipment, mechanical engineering, or industrial service environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of pumps and rotating equipment, including centrifugal, positive displacement, submersible, and multistage pumps.
  • Experience with pump strip-downs, inspections, tolerancing, and hydraulic testing procedures.
  • Ability to interpret pump curves, system characteristics, and performance data.
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles including hydraulics, mechanics, and materials.
  • Knowledge of diagnostics including vibration analysis, bearing failures, seal failures, and alignment techniques.
  • Familiarity with API, ISO, and ATEX standards.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer relationship abilities.
  • Ability to read technical drawings and engineering reports.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).

It would be great if you had:

  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • OEM or industry-specific pump training (e.g. Grundfos, Sulzer, Flowserve, KSB, Wilo).
  • Understanding of OEM standards for pumps and rotating equipment.
  • Vibration Analysis Certification (Level 1-3) and previous workshop or service operations management experience.
  • Familiarity with CMMS or job-tracking systems and Health & Safety, Environmental, or Quality training.
