Shaft Mechanical Construction Manager – Rail

Location: North West London
Salary: £70,000–£80,000 + Package

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Shaft Mechanical Construction Manager to join an established M&E contractor delivering a major railproject at North West London.

This role will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of mechanical works associated with shaft areas and associated infrastructure, ensuring installations are coordinated, managed, and completed to the required technical, quality, safety, and programme standards.

The successful candidate will have strong experience working within rail, infrastructure, or major construction projects, together with a proven background in mechanical installation and fit-out environments.

Rail experience and mechanical fit-out experience are essential for this position. The successful candidate will be comfortable working within a complex construction environment and coordinating mechanical works alongside multiple trades and project disciplines.

Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Site Managers, subcontractors, and the wider construction team, the Shaft Mechanical Construction Manager will coordinate day-to-day mechanical delivery, manage resources and subcontractors, and ensure works progress safely and efficiently in accordance with project requirements.

• Manage and coordinate mechanical construction activities across shaft areas and associated project works.

• Oversee the day-to-day delivery of mechanical installations on site.

• Manage mechanical subcontractors, supervisors, engineers, and site operatives.

• Coordinate mechanical works with civil, structural, electrical, and other MEP disciplines.

• Manage mechanical fit-out activities within shaft and associated areas.

• Review and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, method statements, and technical documentation.

• Ensure mechanical installations are delivered in accordance with approved designs and project requirements.

• Coordinate access, sequencing, logistics, materials, labour, and plant to support delivery.

• Monitor progress of mechanical works against the construction programme.

• Identify and resolve technical, coordination, and site delivery issues.

• Work closely with Project Managers and Engineers to ensure works are delivered to programme.

• Ensure subcontractors complete works to the required quality and technical standards.

• Carry out regular site inspections and monitor workmanship.

• Ensure all works comply with project health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.

• Coordinate testing, commissioning, snagging, and completion activities.

• Monitor and manage defects, outstanding works, and corrective actions.

• Attend coordination and progress meetings and provide updates on site delivery.

• Coordinate with client representatives, consultants, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.

• Maintain accurate site records, progress information, and relevant project documentation.

• Support the Project Manager with programme planning, resource requirements, and delivery strategy.

• Assist with the preparation and completion of handover and O&M documentation.

• Ensure works are delivered in accordance with rail project requirements and relevant industry standards.

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Construction Manager, Mechanical Site Manager, Mechanical Supervisor, or similar role.

• Strong mechanical engineering and construction background.

• Previous rail experience is essential.

• Experience working on rail or major rail/infrastructure projects would be highly advantageous.

• Strong experience managing mechanical installation works on major construction projects.

• Mechanical fit-out experience is essential.

• Experience working within shaft, infrastructure, station, tunnel, or other complex construction environments would be advantageous.

• Proven experience managing mechanical subcontractors and site teams.

• Strong understanding of mechanical building services and installation.

• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, method statements, and technical documentation.

• Experience coordinating mechanical works with other MEP and construction disciplines.

• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, site logistics, and programme delivery.

• Experience with testing, commissioning, snagging, and handover.

• Strong health and safety awareness.

• Excellent communication and organisational skills.

• Ability to work effectively with Project Managers, Engineers, subcontractors, consultants, and site teams.

• Relevant mechanical qualification or equivalent industry experience.

• Ability to work within a fast-paced, technically demanding rail environment.

• Salary: £70,000–£80,000, depending on experience.
