The department actively helps BBC programme makers create and deliver great content across Radio, TV and Online. Engineering Operations is principally responsible for supporting live and recorded programme output all day, every day. As a support department our role is to make life as easy as possible for those using the BBC''s technology, while minimising the amount of licence fee that is consumed in doing so.Why join the teamOur teams support studios and other production facilities, digital production systems, broadcast infrastructure as well as personal computing devices across the BBC''s UK and international offices. We are also responsible for operational switching and monitoring live and pre-recorded BBC output as well as a wide range of other production support services. This dayside role works as part of a shift-working team providing 24 hour operational support, incident management and stakeholder communication for a range of BBC platforms and services.Your key responsibilities and impactThe prime responsibility is to provide 24/7 IT support as a member of the Engineering Operations CAS Team within W1 and across other London offices. The department helps BBC programme makers create and deliver great content across radio, TV and online. The role may be based on a dayside or a 24/7 shift covering nights and weekends, supporting a range of BBC platforms including Windows, macOS and MDM, on site and remotely for International BBC Bureaux, undertaking a mixture of:1st line support calls2nd line IT desk visitsUser Admin requestsCustomer-facing Laptop ClinicThe role reports to the Team Leader, highlighting issues that require escalation to achieve a satisfactory resolution. The role involves end-to-end business support for systems and applications for related Editorial/Production and Development teams, ensuring duties are performed efficiently, safely and to a high standard.Your skills and experienceAs an Operations Engineer, you will have:Strong experience with Microsoft Active Directory and SCCM administration in an operational business environment.Strong experience supporting Microsoft Windows Workstation (Windows 7 and 10) in an operational environment.Strong experience troubleshooting software and hardware issues on Windows desktops and laptops.Experience of Microsoft Office products including Outlook configuration in an operational environment.Knowledge of support centre call logging systems.Experience of installation, configuration and troubleshooting of laptops with emphasis on remote access via broadband and wireless connections.Experience training novice users in operating technical equipment and software applications.Essential criteriaExperience managing network issuesKnowledge of Windows and Mac OSExperience using Cool Edit/Adobe AuditionKnowledge of Apple iOS in a support environmentAbility to support remote workers using a range of applicationsOther skills desiredAn understanding of content management systems in large internet sitesStrong understanding of Intel-based hardwareKnowledge of security issues in a large corporate networked environmentKnowledge of TCP/IP over Ethernet networksExtra informationTo ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work Act, Working Time Directive and related legislation, all work is carried out in accordance with a safe system of work and BBC safety regulations, including adherence to the BBC Health and Safety Policy.Before your start date, you may need to disclose any unspent convictions or police charges, in line with our Contracts of Employment policy.
