ResponsibilitiesAs a Security Engineer, you will design and implement security controls, tools, and monitoring systems that safeguard our hybrid infrastructure, with a particular emphasis on Microsoft Azure. You will continuously assess and optimise security architectures to align with organisational growth and evolving threats. Monitoring systems for potential risks, responding to incidents, and conducting root cause analyses will be key responsibilities, ensuring that remediation measures are effective and incidents are prevented from reoccurring.

Your role will involve managing incident escalations, maintaining detailed records, and performing trend analyses to inform improvements. Proactive threat hunting and regular vulnerability assessments will be integral to your work, as will supporting patch management activities to enhance our security posture. You will collaborate with teams across the organisation to embed security best practices and foster a culture of cybersecurity awareness.

As a subject matter expert, you will provide advice on security tools, networks, and initiatives while ensuring compliance with enterprise policies, regulatory requirements, and industry standards. Your expertise will extend to developing comprehensive documentation for security processes and incident response procedures. Additionally, you will support training initiatives to ensure employees are well-equipped to follow cybersecurity best practices.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field.

A recognised cybersecurity qualification (SEC+, CCNP, CEH, CISSP etc).

Knowledge

A broad understanding of common infrastructure services and operating systems, including Windows-based systems, Active Directory (AD), DNS, and DHCP.

Knowledge of cloud-native security practices, such as container security, infrastructure-as-code (IaC) scanning, and secure configuration management.

A strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including VLANs and TCP/IP networks.

Familiarity with SIEM and XDR tools for threat detection, monitoring, and incident response.

Proven experience in using and optimising Microsoft Defender, Intune, and other security solutions.

A solid grasp of network security, identity and access management (IAM), and vulnerability management.

Experience

Hands-on cybersecurity experience in a cybersecurity engineer or analyst role, with a focus on cloud (or hybrid cloud) environments such as Microsoft Azure.

The ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a cohesive team, effectively managing multiple tasks with varying priorities while ensuring responsibilities are completed on time.

A proactive mindset with a passion for staying ahead of emerging threats and evolving security practices.

Strong communication skills, with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.

A collaborative, purpose-driven approach to work, with a genuine commitment to protecting systems.

Team-oriented interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including security teams, vendors, IT staff, and business personnel.
