We are currently working with a leading main contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to join their team on a major -50m new-build school project in Essex.

The project is a significant education scheme with approximately 2 years of work remaining, offering excellent long-term stability for an experienced Design Manager with a strong background in school or education projects.

As Design Manager, you will take responsibility for managing the design process from pre-construction through to delivery, working closely with the project team, consultants, subcontractors and client.

Key responsibilities will include:

• Managing and coordinating the design process throughout the project lifecycle.
• Working closely with the Project Manager and wider site team.
• Managing consultants, subcontractors and design teams.
• Reviewing and coordinating technical information and drawings.
• Managing design programmes, deliverables and interfaces.
• Identifying and resolving design issues and clashes.
• Ensuring design information is coordinated with the construction programme.
• Supporting procurement and technical submissions.
• Attending design and progress meetings.
• Maintaining strong relationships with the client, consultants and supply chain.
• Supporting the successful delivery and handover of the project.

We are looking for an experienced Design Manager with:

• Proven experience working for a main contractor.
• Previous experience delivering school / education projects is highly desirable.
• Strong technical and design management knowledge.
• Experience working on large-scale new-build projects.
• Excellent coordination and communication skills.
• Experience managing consultants and subcontractor design.
• Strong understanding of the construction process and design development.
• Ability to work effectively with project, commercial and site teams.
• Relevant construction/design qualifications.
