Stephen James Consulting is partnering with an expanding elderly care home provider in their search for a Head of Medication. This pivotal, newly created role will report into the Senior Management Team and focus on elevating the quality and consistency of medication practices across the group’s care home portfolio.

The Head of Medication will take the lead on the implementation of a new electronic medication system and will be responsible for identifying trends and delivering medication-related analysis to support continuous improvement in care delivery.

Key responsibilities include:

• To develop and lead the medication management strategy in line with the provider’s business plan, with a key focus on improving quality across all homes.

• To provide leadership and supervision to the medicines evaluation team, ensuring robust assessment standards are upheld.

• To work collaboratively with Home Managers and GPs to explore and introduce alternative, resident-centered medication options.

• To deliver a consistent, group-wide audit and review process that evaluates the quality and effectiveness of medication practices, ensures compliance with regulatory standards, and highlights areas for service development.

To be shortlisted for this key role of Head of Medication, you will need the following experience:

• Hold a clinical qualification (RGN / RMN or RNLD) and demonstrate significant experience in leading healthcare teams within nursing care home environments.

• Relevant management qualifications, such as NVQ Level 5.

• A strong understanding of national legislation and procedures related to medication licensing and administration.

• A proven ability to lead change, influence stakeholders, and deliver measurable improvements in quality.

• Highly organised with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

• A deep understanding of the needs of older people, particularly those living with Dementia, and a passion for delivering excellence in care.

The role of Head of Medication is offering £65,000 – £75,000, depending on candidate experience, plus excellent benefits and a performance-based bonus.
