School HR Officer

Job Title: HR Officer
Location: East London
Hours: 08:00 – 16:00, Monday to Friday
Contract: Temporary/Permanent 52 weeks per year
Salary: £35,000 – £39,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Start Date: ASAP
About the role:
Complete classroom services are looking for an HR Officer, who will play a pivotal role in supporting the day-to-day HR operations across the Trust. You’ll work closely with school leaders, staff, and the wider HR team to ensure effective HR service delivery in line with policies, employment law, and best practice.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is highly organised, and can confidently handle a wide range of HR responsibilities with professionalism and discretion. With your background in schools or education, you’ll understand the importance of compliance, safeguarding, and the unique challenges of supporting staff in an educational setting.
Your role will cover everything from recruitment and onboarding to managing employee relations cases and advising on policies and procedures. You’ll also be instrumental in ensuring HR systems and records are accurate, up to date, and compliant
Key Responsibilities:
As the HR Officer, your role will include but not be limited to:
- Providing day-to-day HR support and guidance to school leaders and staff
- Managing recruitment and onboarding processes (advertising roles, arranging interviews, issuing offer letters and contracts)
- Overseeing compliance with safer recruitment and safeguarding procedures (e.g. DBS checks, Right to Work, references)
- Maintaining and updating HR records and personnel files
- Managing sickness and absence reporting and supporting return-to-work processes
- Coordinating performance management and appraisal processes
- Supporting disciplinary, grievance, and capability procedures
- Assisting with policy development, implementation, and adherence
- Preparing HR reports and data analysis for senior leaders
- Ensuring the HRIS (HR Information System) is up-to-date and accurate
- Liaising with payroll to ensure accurate and timely processing
- Supporting training and staff development initiatives
Candidate Requirements:
To be successful in this role, you must have:
- Proven experience in a similar HR role (ideally within an education/school environment)
- A good understanding of employment law and HR best practices
- Experience with recruitment and safer recruitment practices
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information professionally
- A proactive, flexible, and solution-focused approach
- CIPD Level 3 or higher (desirable but not essential)
- Experience using HRIS or school-specific systems (e.g., SIMS, Bromcom, Arbor, etc.)
