Long Term Futures are seeking an experienced and compassionate 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join an inclusive primary school in Halesowen.
This is a full-time role providing dedicated 1:1 support to pupils across KS1 and KS2 with a range of additional needs. Pupils may present with Autism (ASD), ADHD, complex needs, communication difficulties and behavioural regulation needs, including children who are non-verbal or have speech and language needs.
You will work closely with class teachers, the SENCO and wider support team to provide consistent and individualised support, helping pupils access learning, communicate effectively, regulate their emotions and develop greater confidence and independence.
Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 SEN support to pupils across KS1 and KS2
- Support pupils with ASD, ADHD and complex additional needs
- Work effectively with non-verbal pupils and children with speech and language needs
- Adapt classroom activities to suit individual learning and communication needs
- Support pupils with emotional and behavioural regulation
- Recognise potential triggers and use appropriate de-escalation strategies
- Use visual communication, structured routines and sensory approaches where appropriate
- Support communication, social interaction and positive relationships
- Encourage independence, confidence and engagement with learning
- Work towards individual targets and outcomes outlined within support plans and EHCPs
- Work closely with teachers, the SENCO and other professionals to provide consistent support
What the School is Looking For
- Previous experience providing 1:1 SEN support within a primary or specialist setting
- Experience supporting pupils with ASD and/or ADHD
- Experience working with children with complex needs
- Confidence supporting non-verbal pupils and children with speech and language needs
- Good understanding of behavioural and emotional regulation
- Experience using positive behaviour and de-escalation strategies
- Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, visual timetables and Now & Next boards would be beneficial
- Experience supporting pupils across KS1 and/or KS2
- A calm, patient and consistent approach
- Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils
- Available to start ASAP
