Job Title:

Senior Environmental Crime Officer

Overview

The Environment Agency is committed to an inclusive workforce and values diversity. This role sits within the National Environmental Crime Unit, part of the National Regulation and Monitoring Team. The National Investigations Team coordinates and progresses investigations into serious environmental offences, often involving Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports and large-scale fraud.

Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate major investigations alongside Senior Investigation Managers and the Major Incident Room, from identifying lines of enquiry to casefile preparation and prosecution.

Review intelligence, raise and allocate actions, coordinate evidence gathering and interviews, and drive investigations to successful outcomes.

Work with partnership organisations to develop investigations and help build the team’s capability and effectiveness.

Respond to incidents as required, participate in incident roles, and provide business continuity support during incidents (may attract additional payments and training).

Experience/Skills Required

High attention to detail, hard-working, self-motivated with a strong investigative background.

In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA; excellent verbal and written communication; basic IT competency (Word, Excel, Teams).

Knowledge of environmental crime and experience leading serious criminal investigations; familiarity with Major Incident Room operations is desirable.

Ability to drive, take initiative, and develop investigation teams.

Successful completion of SC and NPPV2 Vetting processes within a 6-month probationary period; full driving licence required.

Role Details

Hybrid working (home and Environment Agency Office); frequent travel for meetings and operational duties.
